On Monday, May 17, Sharp announced its new flagship in its Japanese home market. The smartphone, dubbed the Sharp Aquos R6, will receive several exclusive features. These include a record refresh rate among smartphones and a camera with a huge 1-inch sensor. Moreover, the new flagship Sharp camera was developed in conjunction with the famous German manufacturer of photographic equipment, Leica, which recently expired a contract with the Chinese company Huawei.
The Sharp Aquos R6 is the world’s first smartphone with a Pro IGZO OLED screen with a dynamic refresh rate of 1 to 240 Hz, which strikes the perfect balance between picture smoothness and energy efficiency. The screen measures 6.67 inches diagonally and supports a resolution of 2730 by 1260 pixels. And since the panel is made using OLED technology, the manufacturer could integrate a fingerprint scanner into it, increasing the level of security.
The second feature of the Sharp Aquos R6 is the main camera with a 20.2-megapixel 1-inch sensor comprised of a ToF sensor and an LED flash. It is noted that Leica has been involved in all stages of the camera’s development – from initial research to the creation of optics and quality adjustment. According to the manufacturer, the unique sensor will allow the smartphone’s camera to shoot perfectly even in low light conditions. It offers a better dynamic range and lower digital noise compared to almost any other smartphone camera. Sharp and Leica have also worked on improving the front camera of the novelty. It is a 12.6-megapixel module with 7-element optics, f / 1.9 aperture, and a focal length equivalent to 19 mm.
Since Sharp Aquos R6 is positioned as a flagship, its internal contents correspond to this status. The “heart” of the smartphone is the top-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset combined with 8 GB of RAM. A built-in 128 GB drive is allocated for data storage. And the 5,000 mAh battery is responsible for autonomy. An additional advantage of the novelty is called a dust-proof and waterproof case.
Sharp Aquos R6 sales in Japan will start in mid-June. Closer to this time, the cost of the smartphone will be announced. Now it is reported only that buyers will choose one of two colors: black or white.
