As part of the Google I / O conference, the American corporation announced that it is consulting with 15 specialized companies to adjust algorithms for processing photographs of people with non-white skin tones. The fact is that most of the existing neural networks were trained on a sample of white-skinned people. Therefore the algorithms do not work correctly when processing photographs of representatives of other nations.
Algorithm adjustments concern white balance, exposure, and color temperature. Google did not say where the updated technology will be applied. Most likely, in addition to the “Camera” in branded Pixel smartphones, they will also be used in “Google Photos.”
