After Jony Quince left Apple, Evans Hankey was appointed to the post of chief designer of the company, but she did not last long, expressing a desire to leave the company in 2023.
Now the group of designers is divided into two parts. The first deals with industrial design, that is, it determines how the devices will look. She just reports to Evans Hankey. The second group, led by Alan Dai, dealt with software. For the most experienced designers, Apple will “give larger roles to their team.”
Apple has been looking for a replacement for Evans Hankey for a long time, but it seems they have not found anyone. Therefore, the company decided to go to important reorganization moments, says Mark Gurman from Bloomberg. According to him, a team of about twenty industrial designers will report directly to the company’s chief operating officer, Jeff Williams. He also oversees the supply chain, customer support at AppleCare, and software development for watches and health.
The company had several candidates, but they could not satisfy the leadership. Gourmet’s sources claim that hiring them would have led to the death of the design team.
