A Twitter user shared information about the S8 chip in the new Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra.
As expected, the watch received the same chip as the previous generation. That is the one that debuted in the Apple Watch Series 6. Apple has not updated the chip in the watch for three years, so it is compared with the Apple S5 at presentations.
Apple may be updating specific components of the system-on-a-chip to work with new features, but there are no improvements in performance.
What’s bad about it? Yes, nothing. The clock works lightning fast in both standard and third-party applications. Therefore, additional investments in developing and producing new chips are not justified.
The only thing that can be improved is autonomy. The S8 chip is manufactured using a 7nm process technology. Going to 4nm or 3nm should improve power efficiency. Therefore, an update to the Apple Watch chip could occur next year when Apple introduces 3nm systems-on-a-chip for the iPhone 15 Pro.
