BMW has pledged to release an electric city scooter for years, and now the German auto giant has finally decided to pursue its plan. On Wednesday, July 7th, the automaker unveiled the BMW CE 04, an electric scooter for the city with a decent range and high speed.
The Motorrad division will mass-produce the first electric scooter under the BMW brand. The manufacturer estimates it at $ 12,000. For this amount, the buyer will have at his disposal a city scooter with an electric motor with a capacity of 31 kW (about 42 horsepower) and a battery with a capacity of 8.9 kWh. The maximum speed that it can reach is 120 km / h, and it takes just 2.6 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 50 km / h. The power reserve, according to the manufacturer, is about 130 km. A full charge will take 4 hours and 20 minutes.
The BMW CE 04 features a 10.25-inch TFT display under the steering wheel with integrated navigation and smartphone connectivity. The manufacturer also promises that the electric scooter will have a well-ventilated compartment for charging mobile devices via the USB Type-C port.
The exact date of the start of sales of the BMW city electric scooter is still unknown, but, most likely, it will take place before the end of this year.
By the way, BMW already had a futuristic electric scooter, C Evolution. The public warmly received it but never became popular, possibly due to the high price tag. They asked for about $ 13,000.
