With Disk Management Tool you can create a new volume, expand or shrink the partition, change the drive letter, delete or format the partition, etc. Also, corrupted flash drives / USB drives can be formatted within Disk Management. This tool is not available on my computer or Windows Explorer. To access the Disk Management Tool Right-click this PC (for Windows 10 users) My Computer (for Windows 8.1, 7, Visit Users) and select Manage.
This will open the computer management window. Now here on the left side Click on disk management under storage. In the middle section, find your problem device (you should be able to recognize it by its size) and the fact that Windows recognizes it as unallocated space.
Right click on the flash drive and select “Format” option and select the file system format to perform quick format.
If the drive shows an allocated space
In computer management If the problem drive is shown with unallocated space Then just right click on it and select New Simple Volume. The New Simple Volume Wizard will start. Here select to format this volume with the following settings and set the file system type to NTFS, check the Perform a quick format box. Click Next and finish to complete the process. Right click on the selection properties of this PC. Click Advanced System Settings. When the system properties pop-up window opens, go to the advanced tab here, click the settings next to performance. Move back to the advanced tab and then select switch to virtual memory.
Here in the Virtual Memory window, uncheck Automatically manage paging file size for all drives. Then select the drive that you failed to format, it should have its Paging File Size set to Managed System. Select the No paging file option and hit Set, which should change the Paging file size to None from Managed System. Click OK, Apply and close System Properties.
If Windows prompts for Restart for any changes you make to take effect Restart the system. Try formatting the drive again. It should work without error if you use this drive before in Windows.
