Every time you open the Start menu in Windows 11, in addition to the pinned applications, the “Recommended” section is displayed at the bottom. It includes a list of files, folders, and new installations that were recently opened or used and are activated by default. If you don’t like these automatic recommendations, you can easily turn them off. Nevertheless, I immediately draw your attention: the section itself from the Start menu will not disappear anywhere, leaving just space and occupying the same half of the window.

How to hide recent files and folders in the Windows 11 Start menu

  1. Start the Settings app.
  2. Go to the following path:
    Personalization → Start → Show Recently Opened Items in Start Menu, Jump Lists, and Explorer.
  3. Click on the switch to disable the function.
