Just ten months have passed since BMW unveiled the bold concept XM, which was supposed to be the harbinger of the second car of its own, developed by the M-division of the Bavarians:
As expected, the production version was close to the concept but much more mundane. However, the designers, managers, and management of BMW did not take courage since the production version was as visible as possible on the roads. And, it seems, as stubborn as her ad:
Prior to this, M had produced only one own car – M1, which was produced from 1978 to 1981:

Design
The appearance of the BMW XM is the realm of straight lines, with which the entire body of the car is streaked:

A light stroke emphasizes the massiveness of the nostrils:

My passion for two-row optics seems to have subsided. Or does it look much better here than the Series 7 and X7?

There is one more BMW logo than usual: two painted ones on the back along the upper edges of the glass. This decision is a tribute to the first and so far the only car developed by the M division. XM, forty years later, will become the second independent model that does not imply the release of the usual “non-emka.”

The base has 21-inch wheels. But optionally, you can put 22 or 23 inches.

The car came far from minor: 5110 × 2005 × 1755 mm with a wheelbase of 3105 mm.

XM is only slightly smaller than X7. Because of this, the novelty has only two rows of seats. There are not very many photos of the interior, but they immediately show that it is pretty typical for a BMW.

A 12.3-inch screen is installed in front of the driver. It is united by one panel with a multimedia screen. The diagonal of the latter is 14.9 inches.

Multi-contour front seats were included in the essential equipment of the car.

More details on the interior with all its highlights can be seen in the video dedicated to the interior of the BMW XM:
It’s a crossover! Albeit very expensive. However, this does not mean that the trunk must be nominal. Its base volume is 527 liters. With the seats folded down, this figure will increase to 1820 liters.

Iron
BMW XM is a plug-in hybrid. Under the floor, it has a traction battery with a capacity of 29.5 kWh. However, only a part of its volume will be used for driving – 25.7 kWh. The battery operates under a voltage of 317 volts. Theoretically, it can be enough for about 85 km of driving without an internal combustion engine. However, here it must be borne in mind that the maximum speed in this mode is limited to only 140 km / h.

BMW XM received a new engine under the symbol S68. This is a V8 bi-turbo engine with a volume of 4.4 liters. The return of the internal combustion engine is 489 liters and 650 Nm. The eight-speed automatic ZF, which is installed in other cars of the brand, has been slightly changed to suit the needs of the hybrid. So, the torque converter replaced the electric motor, whose power is 197 liters with a torque of 280 Nm. As a result, the total return of the car is 653 hp.

The numbers are close to the X5 M and X6 M, which put out 625 hp. However, the XM failed to become faster than the brand’s fastest crossover. First, the X6 M is likely much better aerodynamically, as the car isn’t as hammer-like as the XM. Secondly, the X6 M weighs significantly less: 2395 kg versus 2785 for the XM. As a result, acceleration to hundreds of the XM is 4.3 seconds, half a second slower than the X6 M.

However, the X6 M will likely lose its lead next summer when BMW XM Label Red goes on sale. Its Biturbo engine will produce 585 hp.

The maximum speed is 250 km/h. But if the owner has the optional M Driver’s Package installed, the driver will get an additional 20 km/h.

The car received an adaptive spring suspension M Professional with active anti-roll bars. A two-link axle is installed in the front and a five-link one in the back.

Optionally, a fully steerable chassis will be available, in which the rear wheels turn at an angle of 2.5 °.

Availability
BMW XM production will start before the end of the year in the US, where the company’s crossovers are produced. The car will go on sale in the spring.

BMW XM will cost 159 thousand dollars.
