The long-awaited big iOS update is finally out for everyone. Someone has been testing innovations for themselves since the summer, and someone looks at the latest iOS with suspicion, but as always, it’s a personal matter whether to install an update or not. According to my feelings, iOS 16 is a fresh look at the familiar interface, which is initially perceived ambiguously, and then you get used to it. A person in general, by his nature, is skeptical about everything new, then over time, he adapts and does not understand how he used to live without all these valuable innovations.
Applications in place
I’ll start with the main thing: the applications of the sanctions banks have not gone away. Whatever has been established, everything works. In my case, these are Sberbank and Alfa-Bank. When iPhone doesn’t look like iPhone
Acquaintance with the new system begins with a radically redesigned lock screen. First impressions give a lot of emotions. The iPhone is so different from the usually modest iPhone in terms of customization. There is a feeling that this is some Chinese Android in the bad sense of the word. There was a time when some manufacturers produced overly lurid shells. So here it is, you don’t recognize the stingy Apple, but now the system has changed.
Animated wallpaper with dynamic lighting – please; wallpapers with a depth effect, when the image covers the clock, are also present; full-screen animated weather, wild emoji blends, and ready-made screensaver portraits. In addition, you can play around with fonts by choosing one of eight suitable ones, adjusting the color while being limited only by your imagination, and at the same time changing widgets. I noticed that the weather widget only works with geolocation enabled. I previously disabled the feature by setting the city manually.
Do not forget that various profiles are created with a design that is convenient for different situations: at home or work. Or use templates according to your mood, changing pictures and refreshing the interface.
The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max owners, where Always On support will appear, will get the maximum pleasure from the updated lock screen. The rest of the iPhone owners can only envy.
Stability
I put the beta version on the iPhone 11 Pro in the summer, then updated it as new firmware was released. As a result, no particular problems were noticed on the test phone – by the standards of the first bets, it was very worthy. Then the release version came out. I put it on my iPhone 13 Pro and was pleasantly surprised – it began to work a little faster. It is possible that the problem was in the memory clogged over time. I noticed that you could take some old iPhones, arrange a complete data reset, then set everything up again – and the speed will increase.
There is no battery. The speed is excellent – I will also update the rest of the devices to the current version of the system.
Improved management
Face ID unlocks the smartphone in landscape mode, and the function was tested on 13 Pro and 13. It does not work on the older iPhone 11 Pro, unfortunately. On an entirely new series, the iPhone 12, alas, is also not active.
Interaction with the interface has been slightly redesigned: the player buttons are located at the bottom, and notifications are also at the bottom of the screen, as is the search line. Moreover, the search also works on texts, recognizing the Russian language in documents.
If you don’t like looking at the “Search” button on desktops, you can hide it: “Settings” → “Home Screen” → “Show on the Home Screen” → “Off.”
A nice bonus is vibration support when typing. It turns on like this: “Settings” → “Sounds, tactile signals” → “Keyboard response.”
Don’t interfere
Each application believes it should report at least once a day about discounts, promotions, give advice – at least somehow pay attention. And that’s not counting the flow of messages from chats, channels, and other social networks. I deal with this with the old method: the phone is always silent, and if someone calls, I see a notification on the clock. But if you want to get confused, you can use more precise settings for the focus mode, and the lock screen settings are also tied to it. Depending on the situation, both the notification style and the set of applications will change.
Short and useful
Now a folder with duplicates has appeared in the “Photos” – it’s easier to delete monotonous pictures or pictures.
Access to the section with hidden and recently deleted photos is now possible only by entering a password, Face ID, or Touch ID.
The built-in Photo application can cut out an object. No additional programs are needed for this. The picture can be sent immediately. In the same way, send the image through instant messengers by copying the image in Safari.
Photo editing fans love the ability to copy and paste edits from one image to another.
The search for duplicates by contacts works similarly.
iOS has quick notes: add an icon to the “Control Center,” and you can quickly write a short note.
In the mail client, you can set a timer for sending letters and, if necessary, cancel sending. iMessage works similarly – you can cancel sending or edit the content. And if the correspondence was deleted, it can be returned. There will be 30 days in stock.
During an iMessage conversation, you can edit a sent message or even delete it. If necessary, it is marked as unread. If you delete the message and want to return it, there will be 30 days to cancel the erroneous deletion.
The Live Text function works with both text and video: you can translate texts into Russian directly from the videos. Or take a picture of a phone number and then call it – you don’t have to dial it manually.
You no longer need an Apple Watch to work out. The Fitness program will collect information using iPhone sensors.
We have simplified the exchange of passwords from Wi-Fi networks. Now, you can see the secret code after connecting to the network. No need to ask a cafe employee or a friend at a party when you need to share your password with someone else.
Passkeys have appeared – these are locally created digital keys with protection through Face ID.
The new system will help bypass the check for hydrants, bicycles, and other buses: the iPhone automatically determines the CAPTCHA. The option is activated as follows: “Settings” → “Apple ID account” → “Password and security” → “Auto-verify.”
Connecting fake AirPods to your iPhone will warn you that it is not a real accessory. A nightmare of sellers of counterfeit headphones.
If you highlight the amount in the photo or the text, then using the built-in currency converter, you can quickly convert one unit to another, taking into account the exchange rate.
Updated the application “Home” to control smart devices.
Added a display of the percentage of charge. The function is launched through “Settings” → “Battery” → “Percentage charge.” Does not work on iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 13 mini.
Refresh and move on
The update has been released for a bunch of models, starting with the iPhone 8 and newer:

Instead of a conclusion, I will say that I liked the update, thanks to Apple for the redesign and numerous innovations.
