Hi all! This is a fresh piece of gaming industry news from the past week. And here you will find a couple of trailers and games that come out next week.
Friends of Sony
Sony held another State of Play, which was dedicated to the games of partner studios. Let’s talk about the most interesting from this event.
Capcom showed a new gameplay of the Resident Evil 4 remake. In the video, a lot of shooting and a little bit of talking, and there is also the famous “QTE knife fight». Another mode will be added to the game “mercenaries», and the PlayStation 5 will support PS VR2. Resident Evil 4 Remake is slated for release on March 24 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, with a special demo coming soon.
Capcom also showed the gameplay of Street Fighter 6 and announced the release date – June 2 on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Also in the video you can see new (for this part) fighters: Zangieva, Lily and Cammy. The game looks very impressive and dynamic.
Rocksteady brought six minutes of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League gameplay and developer videos to State of Play. In him “Suicide Squad» cheerfully jumps on bright locations and shoots from cannons. Yes, each character has unique skills, but for some reason they all focused on firearms. Because of this, Suicide Squad turned into another cooperative looter shooter with colorful weapons, and not a game from the creators of the Batman: Arkham series. You can go through the story campaign alone for all the characters, but the developers advise you to find three more friends for this, as well as a permanent online connection. Well, we advise developers to look at the sad experience of the recent Gotham Knights and Marvel’s Avengers, which is closing this year. Suicide Squad will release on May 26, 2023 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
Baldur’s Gate III will be a PlayStation 5 console exclusive (in addition to the PC release). Anyone who purchased the game during Early Access will receive the Deluxe Edition for free. In the presented video you can see different characters and new gameplay. They also announced the exact release date – August 31, 2023. By the way, the gray-haired necromancer in the video was voiced by actor J. K. Simmons (editor of the Daily Bugle from Spider-Man).
Since Bungie is now part of the Sony gaming family, Destiny 2’s Lightfall DLC release trailer was shown at State of Play. You can head to the neon city of Neo Luna on Neptune and see the End of the World on February 28th.
Microsoft and NVIDIA will become partners, but only if the deal with Activision Blizzard goes through. Recall that before this NVIDIA was against the merger, but at a recent speech before the European Commission, Microsoft President Brad Smith said that if everything goes well, then all PC games will appear in the GeForce Now cloud service, including the Call of Duty franchise. But that’s not all: Microsoft managed to negotiate with Nintendo – they entered into a 10-year agreement, under which games from Xbox studios will be released on the same day on Nintendo consoles. And here too – including Call of Duty, if the deal with Activision Blizzard goes through. Microsoft seized on this merger with all its might, and it seems that the main opponent – Sony remained in the minority. But the fate of the purchase will still be decided by antitrust regulators.
Details of legal disputes over the title of The Day Before emerged. Recall that the Yakut studio Fntastic first deleted the game page on Steam, and then the gameplay videos from the YouTube channel – all this at the request of the owner of the rights to the name The Day Before. It turned out to be a citizen of South Korea, Lee Song Jae, the creator of the calendar application of the same name. He released his product back in 2010, and registered a trademark in 2015. True, several questions still remain: why did the claims appear only in 2023? Why are companies in conflict at all, given that the calendar has nothing to do with the gaming industry and it is impossible to confuse them? And if you can, then why didn’t Fntastic check the availability of The Day Before beforehand?
Some news in one line. They are interesting but short:
- Nintendo will not be coming to E3 2023.
- Media: Konami will bring to E3 a remake of MGS3 and a new Castlevania.
- Peak online survivor Sons of the Forest exceeded 300 thousand players, and in 24 hours it was bought more than two million times.
- The new season of The Division 2 starts on February 28th.
- Tango Gameworks will leave its founder Shinji Mikami.
- Warner Bros. very quietly announced Mortal Kombat 12 – it happened on a phone call with investors.

Destiny 2: Lightfall (PC, PlayStation, Xbox) is a big expansion that sends Guardians to Neptune. A full-scale invasion of Darkness into the solar system has begun. Will the Light and the Wanderer be able to resist, or is humanity waiting for a second collapse? This is what you will find out in the add-on. This includes new story missions, a new location – the city of Neo Luna on Neptune, a new subclass, and, of course, a bunch of new weapons and armor.
Phantom Brigade (PC) is a tactical turn-based mech strategy game. You control a small detachment of combat vehicles and protect your lands from invaders. And even though there are many enemies, there is a unique skill in your arsenal: to anticipate the movement of the enemy. Tactical gameplay is based on this mechanic.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty (PC, PlayStation, Xbox) is an action RPG in the spirit of the Nioh series of games from the same developers, but now in China. You control a nameless hero who fights demons and monsters in the dark fantasy world of the Three Kingdoms.
That’s all, see you next week!
