Over the next few months, Apple will release several new Macs. Expect the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro first on the M2 Pro and M2 Max. This will probably be a minor update, where only the mentioned systems-on-a-chip will be new.
Along with them will be presented Mac mini. I want a new design, but, most likely, there will only be a hardware update: the nettop will receive the M2 and, which is also likely, the M2 Pro.
According to well-known insider Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the release of new MacBooks and “mini” will take place within a month. This means that his press release may be shown tomorrow, October 25, and November 22.
But the most anticipated new items are the big iMac, the possible iMac Pro, and Mac Pro. Nothing is known about the first two monoblocks, but Mr. Gurman said something about the Mac Pro.
The systems-on-a-chip that the Mac Pro will receive (Mark Gurman calls them the conditional M2 Ultra and M2 Extreme) will be two and four times more potent than the M2 Max. The Ultra will have a 24-core CPU and a 76-core GPU. Extreme – 48 CPU cores and 152 graphics cores. At the same time, the top will have 256 GB of combined memory, which will be distributed to RAM and video memory, depending on the needs.
Also, Mr. Gurman spoke about one particular test bench, which could later become the same Mac Pro. This computer is running macOS Ventura 13.3. She received a system-on-a-chip with a 24-core central processor and a 76-core graphics coprocessor. It has 192 GB of combined memory on board.
The operating system used on this computer hints at the release of the Mac Pro. macOS Monterey 12.3 was released in mid-March this year. Most likely, Ventura 13.3 will be released a year later. By this time, Apple may hold a massive March presentation right before the release of a new computer.
On the other hand, macOS Ventura 13.3 installed on a computer may not indicate a release in a particular month, but this assembly is the most stable of all subsequent ones. However, it has not even reached the developers yet. For example, Apple is testing macOS 14, which is rumored to be called Mendocino:
Therefore, it is impossible to say precisely when Apple will introduce the Mac Pro. If this happens at WWDC, the presentation will take place three years after the announcement of the transition to ARM.
According to the company’s original plans, the transition from Intel to ARM was to be completed within two years. The first retail devices in the face of the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini were shown in November 2020. That is, Apple is delayed.
