Apple 2024 will begin transitioning from IPS to OLED in laptops and tablets. The first devices with new screens will be the 13-inch MacBook Air and two iPad Pros with a diagonal of 11 and 12.9 inches. In a tweet to paid subscribers, about informed Ross Young, head of Display Supply Chain Consultants.
Ross Young reports that all three cases will use a dual-layer OLED. This structure will make the displays brighter and more energy efficient. This MacBook Air will likely be the first with ProMotion, with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.
Mr. Young did not name specific dates for the transition. But we can assume that both iPad Pro will be released sometime in the spring. The new MacBook Air with a 13-inch display can be presented at WWDC 2024, a development conference that traditionally opens in early June.
The focus on the screen size of the MacBook Air is necessary as Apple is or has been working on a 15-inch model. Authoritative insider Mark Gurman previously reported this from Bloomberg. The presentation of the laptop may take place next year:
Ross Young has a respectable track record. For example, he had previously accurately predicted which devices would receive ProMotion and which would not.
