The China Communications Standards Association, together with local companies such as Huawei, OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi, has announced the creation of a new standard for fast wired charging. It’s called the Universal Fast Charging Specification, or UFCS. This is reported by Gizmochina.
Now there are two stages of UFCS of different power. The first to appear is the weaker one – by 40 watts. Then products with support for the 65-watt UFCS standard will be introduced.
The fact that leading Chinese companies have teamed up to create this charging standard, I wrote in the summer of 2021:
One of the first smartphones to support UFCS will be the OPPO Reno9 line of smartphones, which will be presented in November. This is reported by GSM Arena.
In general, the Chinese standards for fast charging are complete trash. Each manufacturer and even a sub-brand of one company is trying to develop something of its own. OPPO Vooc from OPPO and its variant called SuperVOOC from OnePlus, HyperCharge from Xiaomi, Super FlashCharge from Vivo, Huawei seems to be using Power Delivery… The bottom line is that power controllers go crazy, supply more power than intended, and the battery degrades before our eyes.
Standardization will bring order to the Chinese smartphone market. And there, I hope, others will catch up.
