Right away, if you value your time, do not even try the game Vampire Survivors. It is simple, with unsightly graphics, but it is straightforward to get hooked. You just set out to find out what it is and why people play it, and you come to your senses only in the morning when the iPad has gone to zero.
Who can play?
The game is available on Steam. I launched it on the iPad. It is also available on the App Store and Google Play. The game is free, and there is no donation, but an offer appears to watch an advertisement to revive the character or receive a bonus. Everything is highly discreet. And the game works without the Internet.
We survive as best we can
The essence of the game is straightforward – to fight off the endless attacks of monsters. In theory, you need to hold out for half an hour. So far, I have not been able to do more than 20 minutes.
At first, the character dies very quickly, but the pumping of his skills goes pretty quickly. New skills appear, the character becomes more resilient, and battles become longer. Slide your finger across the screen, move the warrior, collect multi-colored crystals for experience and improve the characteristics of weapons and auxiliary skills. There are three parameters to choose from; later, after improving luck, there may be four. The more powerful the weapons, the longer the character lasts. You can also enhance health regeneration and wander around the map searching for fried chicken – it seriously restores the balance of power.
After the battle, coins accumulate; sometimes, treasure boxes fall out if you defeat a powerful zombie. Then the accrued resources can be spent on improving the character’s parameters. And you can reset, return the money and try other characteristics.
Of the tested weapons, I liked the wands: magical and fiery, plus lightning also works effectively, well, the basic whip also helps clear the way. Still effective is the “freeze” of opponents. Bonuses also appear from time to time: collect all the crystals on the battlefield at one moment or a short-term flamethrower.
If you pause the game during the battle, then combinations arise between two skills with a question mark. I tried to train the character but did not notice anything – perhaps you need to play further, and then there will be an additional effect.
What you might not like
Everything happens automatically. You don’t need to think at all, except that you can try combinations of different weapons. But at one moment, it turns out that the hero stands, enemies climb on him, and dies in tens and hundreds, and you just look at what is happening.
The game has no plot and no dialogues and the pixel graphics are not impressive.
The soundtrack is very simple, so it soon gets tiresome and infuriates those around you. But you can turn off the sound in the game, launch some Christmas collection on Spotify – and go into battle.
Results
As a time-killing game, Vampire Survivors turned out just right. Pass the free hours or spend the whole night and all the New Year holidays in it – here, everyone decides how deep to dive into it.
Evaluating a game by screenshots is a so-so idea. The whole point is in a primitive but straightforward concept for your pleasure.
