End and restart the Photos app

Closing the Photos app does not close the Photos app background process. It still remains active in your Windows 10 background. To fully restart the Photos application, you will need to end its background process. Here we’ll explain to you how to do it.

Go to the start menu and click Setting (the gear icon on the left), or by pressing the keys Win + i on your keyboard. In the Settings app, select Applications , later Applications and Features in the left panel. Scroll down the app list until you see the app Photos . Select it and click the link Advanced Options .

In the Photos app settings, scroll down and find End up . Click the button End up . It is normal that the button does not turn gray after clicking it. After finishing the process, try again to open the application Photos and see if it works.

Reset photos app

To reinstall the Windows 10 Photos app, go to the start menu and search Windows PowerShell . Right click and select Execute as an administrator . In Windows PowerShell, enter the following commands.

Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.Photos

Find and copy the full line of PackageFullName . When you have copied it, enter the following command with the Full Name of the copied package.

remove-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.Photos_2018.18041.15530.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe

The full package name shown here is just an example. You may have a different version of the full package name for the Photos app. Make sure to copy your version of it. Entering this command will uninstall the entire Windows 10 Photos application.

To install it again, go to the Microsoft Store and search for Microsoft Photos. Click Get or Install to install the Photos app again. Restart your computer and see if it solves your Windows 10 Photos app problem.
